Silk worms are among the oldest cultivated species. The Bombyx Mori, the most common type of silkworm used for the production of textiles, was the first organism to have its entire genome sequenced and now depends entirely upon mankind for its survival. In my search to blend organic materials with the cool-white and digital-feeling LED media that I work with, these cocoons were a perfect fit. Not only do they fit perfectly onto the LED mesh that I make, but they modify the light by softening it through their varying densities of fiber.

The Lit Silk series is a group of artworks that I created while refining and searching for the perfect way to frame and mount the works, making them ideal for domestic situations while retaining their identity as hybrid organic digital artworks.
