Light Chimes

Light Chimes is a tactile interface that lets the user trigger pulses of light down a hallway by touching or blowing on a row of switches.
My motivation for this project is to create a dramatic responses to simple inputs from the user, encouraging play and experimentation. Light Chimes magnifies a human-sized gesture out into a large space. The user can touch a single wire to light one bulb, run their hands across all the wires, or blow on the switches for more random bursts of light. If brushed with force, the wires bounce back and forth, leaving reminents of the interaction in the space after the user is gone. The next version will be a grid of lightbulbs in a large room or outdoor space. I am currently seeking a space to make this a reality.

How it works:
Each wire and eye-hook combo acts as a light switch. A safe-to-touch voltage runs through the switch. When the switch is closed, it triggers the closure of another, higher-power circuit that turns on a corresponding incandescent bulb. The low power circuit runs at 9 volts DC. This circuit, when closed, switches the state of a relay, allowing current to flow through the 120 volt AC circuit.
